Fieldston Sports is an action-packed day program offering a wide range of ageappropriate sports including, but not limited to, soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, flag football, lacrosse, and swimming. We promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and safety while introducing campers to the fundamentals of our many sports. Campers will be grouped by grade; the kindergarten and 1st grade group will be coed while the other grades will be divided into boys and girls groups. A typical day begins at 9am, when everyone meets in the varsity gym for morning meeting and attendance. The day is arranged into six 45-minute sessions, with an hour and half for lunch and free play. Each session focuses on a specific sport, with several different sport stations available. The day ends with ice cream or other snacks at 3:30, and campers can be picked up at 4:00. Transportation is available to and from Ethical Culture in Manhattan for an additonal cost through Exec-You-Van.

Program Director

Steve Bluth – Steve has been Fieldston’s athletic director since 1997. He brings 26 years of summer camp experience, both in day camp as well as sleep-away camp settings. For 20 years, Steve was at Camp Wah-Nee in Torrington, Connecticut, where he worked as a group leader, assistant head counselor, and athletic director. Most recently, Steve worked at Camp Kiwi in Mahopac, New York, as athletic director, and is now back at Camp Wah-Nee where he oversees their athletic program. Steve is Fieldston’s boys varsity basketball coach and has also coached varsity softball, varsity tennis, and varsity baseball.

Staff

Fieldston Sports is committed to providing a safe and well-supervised camp atmosphere. Each of the sports stations is headed by a sports director, who is a Fieldston varsity coach. Each group is supervised by a group leader, who is a teacher, an assistant teacher, or college student. Each group also has one or more counselor(s) who are high school juniors or seniors. A full-time nurse and trainer are on campus during program hours. Swim instructors and certified life guards round out the staff. Many of our staff members are teachers from the Ethical Culture Fieldston School as well as from public and independent schools throughout the metropolitan area.
